Odisha govt revises the remuneration of contractual employees

Bhubaneswar : In a major decision the Odisha government today decided to rename all contractual employees as initial appointees of the state government and would no longer be called contractual employees.

The Cabinet held under the Chairmanship of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today also decided to revise their remuneration upward by50 percent and extend RCM allowances to such employees.

Earlier, the contractual employees were not getting any benefits and their services were regularised after completion of six years in service.

The Cabinet today approved a proposal to amend the Odisha Group B posts (Contractual point net) Rules 2013 for the purpose and decided to give 50 percent more salary than what they were getting earlier.

The contractual employees in the Pay Band two as per the rules were getting initial remuneration and annual increase of remuneration of Rs16,880 on completion of first year, Rs 18,570 on completion of second year, , Rs 20,430 on completion of third year, Rs 22,480 on fourth year, 24,730 on fifth year and Rs 27,210 on the completion of six year.

Briefing newspersons after the Cabinet meeting, state Panchayati raj and Law minister Pratap Jena described the decision as a historic one.The decision was taken in view of inflation, he added.

He said from now onwards from the first year of the initial appointees would get 50 percent more than what they were getting earlier.

The initial appointees would get Rs 25,300 on competition of first year, Rs 26,500 on completion of second year, Rs 27,800 on completion of third year, Rs 29,200 on completion of fourth year, Rs 30,600 on completion of fifth year and Rs32,100 on completion of six year of service.

Mr Jena said the decision would cost Rs 250 crore to the state exchequer every year.

He said earlier the Contractual employees were not getting any benefit. But the cabinet decided to reimburse their medical expenses .
