Odisha to procure 77 lakh MTof paddy during 2021-22 kharif season

Bhubaneswar : Odisha government will procure around 77 lakh MT of paddy during the Kharif Marketing Season (KMS)2021-22.

The state cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik took the decision here today while approving the 2021-22 Food and Procurement Policy for KMS.

Odisha Chief Secretary S C Mohapatra said a tentative target of 52 lakh MT in terms of rice has been fixed for KMS 2021-22 which comes to around 77 Lakh MT in terms of paddy.

For Kharif the tentative target for procurement of paddy would be 63 lakh MT and for Rabi 14 lakh MT. But there is no bar for procurement of any higher quantum if more paddy comes to the mandis from registered farmers, he said.

The Chief Secretary said the Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister has been authorised to revise the target if the need arises.

Kharif Marketing season (KMS) will commence from October 1, 2021 and conclude on September 30,2022.

In 2020-21 Kharif marketing season 77.33 lakh MT of paddy was procured. Paddy Kharif will be procured from registered farmers from November 2021 to March 2022 and the Rabi crop (paddy) from May to June 2022.

Paddy will be procured as per the MSP declared by the Union government.

While common variety of paddy will be procured at Rs 1940 per quintal , Grade -A variety will be procured at Rs 1960 per quintal.

Odisha state Civil Supply corporation will procure paddy in all districts through PACS, LAMPS, WSHGS and Pani panchayats.

Payment for the procurement of paddy will be transferred to the accounts of the farmers directly through online mode.
Odisha requires 24 lakh MT of rice annually for its PDS. Surplus rice will be delivered to the central pool through the Food Corporation of India.

Like previous years, paddy procurement will be made through an online platform through Paddy Procurement Automation System (P-PAS).

Rice millers having any dues to state agencies shall not be allowed to participate in the procurement process.

Small and marginal farmers shall be accorded priority for sale of paddy to the government .

There would be no imposition on farmers to keep aside a certain portion of their produce for personal consumption by their families.
