Nine districts in Nagaland, 3 in Arunachal to remain under AFSPA

 Dumani mail, 4/1 ; A day after several districts in three North Eastern states, the Home Ministry on Friday issued two notifications declaring three districts in Arunachal Pradesh and nine districts in Nagaland, including Mon where the recent killing of civilians took place, will continue to be ‘disturbed areas’. According to a notification issued on Friday, Dimapur, Niuland, Chumoukedima, Mon, Kiphire, Noklak, Phek, Peren and Zunheboto districts in Nagaland will continue to be under AFSPA. Areas in some other districts will also be under AFSPA. This includes areas falling within the jurisdiction of Khuzama, Kohima North, Kohima South, Zubza and Kezocha police stations in Kohima District, Mangkolemba, Mokokchung-I, Longtho, Tuli, Longchem and Anaki ‘C’ police stations in Mokokchung District, Yanglok police station in Longleng District; and Bhandari, Champang, Ralan and Sungro police stations in Wokha District, are declared as ‘disturbed area’ under Section 3 of AFSPA 1958 for a period of six months. An earlier notification which declared Nagaland as disturbed area was withdrawn. Another notification declared Tirap, Changlang and Longding districts in Arunachal Pradesh, areas falling within the jurisdiction of Namsai and Mahadevpur police stations in Namsai district and the areas bordering Assam as ‘disturbed area’ for six months. On Thursday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced reduced area under Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) in Nagaland, Assam and Manipur. AFSPA has been lifted from 23 Assam districts completely and from one district partially, 15 police stations in six districts of Manipur, and 15 police stations in seven districts of Nagaland, as per Home Ministry.
