Heat Wave to Continue Till April 16

The regional office of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) here has forecast that heat waves and hot weather conditions will prevail across Odisha for the next few days. The maximum (day) temperature is likely to gradually rise further by 2°C to 3°C during the next two days in several districts of the state, it added. As a result, the maximum (day) temperature is likely to be more than 40°C and 2°C to 5°C above the normal temperature in most places in Odisha for the next four days.

Bhubaneswar: The regional office of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) here has forecast that heat waves and hot weather conditions will prevail across Odisha for the next few days. The maximum (day) temperature is likely to gradually rise further by 2°C to 3°C during the next two days in several districts of the state, it added. As a result, the maximum (day) temperature is likely to be more than 40°C and 2°C to 5°C above the normal temperature in most places in Odisha for the next four days. The IMD has advised people to take precautionary measures while venturing outdoors during day time, especially between 11 am and 3.00 pm. A yellow warning regarding the heat wave has been issued for Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Balasore districts for April 13 to 14. In addition, a heat wave warning has been issued for one or two places in Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Deogarh, Angul, and Balasore districts for April 14 to 15.

Heat wave conditions are also very likely at one or two places in Keonjhar, Deogarh, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Deogarh, Boudh and Kandhamal districts on April 15 and 16. On the other hand, heat wave conditions prevailed across Odisha on Wednesday with maximum day temperature remaining above 40°C in 14 places. Jharsuguda remained the hottest place in the State by recording a maximum day temperature of 43°C followed by Baripada 42.5°C, Sambalpur 42°C, Boudh 41.6°C, Talcher 41.6°C, Bolangir 41.2°C, Titlagarh 41.2°C, Angul 41.1°C, Bhadrak 41°C, Sundargarh 41°C, Sonepur 41°C, Hirakud 40.7°C, Rourkela 40.6°C and Chandabali
40.3°C. Similarly, the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) has directed all district Collectors to take precautionary measures to deal with the heat wave and water scarcity situation across Odisha in view of the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) forecast of a scorching heat wave condition in the state during the next few days. In a letter to the district Collectors, SRC Satyabrata Sahu has directed the launching of awareness campaigns with immediate effect to make people aware of the risks associated with the heat wave and identify the risk as well as the steps to be
taken if someone is affected.

“The district administration is required to take advanced steps to identify the water scarcity pockets and prepare action plans for ensuring the supply of water for drinking and other uses through tanker to those areas. Reports of water scarcity are to be responded to immediately,” the letter read. In addition, the SRC also directed the district Collectors to store sufficient life-saving medicines, saline, and ORS in the dispensaries, PHCs, CHCs and subdivision/ district headquarters hospitals to meet the requirement. “Special arrangements may be made and separate wards/beds be earmarked for treatment of heat stroke patients in different hospitals.
