Birthplace Cuttack Remembers & Honours Netaji

Cuttack: The 125th birth anniversary of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose was celebrated in a grand manner at his birth place Cuttack. The eminent Indian freedom fighter was born in Cuttack on 23 January 1897. His birth anniversary is celebrated every year as Subhash Chandra Bose Jayanti. Subhash Chandra Bose contributed significantly in the
Indian Independence Movement with his revolutionary and nationalist ideas. He was also the leader of the Indian National Army, also known as the Azad Hind Fauj. He was also popularly known as ‘Netaji’, a title given to him by German and Indian officials at the Special Bureau of India in Berlin. Netaji was a revolutionary freedom fighter whose ideas continue to inspire all Indians. The name of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose fills every Indian with pride and with emotions of patriotism. Everyone acknowledges that he was a great leader, who changed the course of history of India. In the struggle of India’s Independence against the British, his Contribution has been unique. He sacrificed his everything to attain independence and even today is a source of inspiration to the Indian people. Janakinath Bhawan, the ancestral house of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, is located at Odia Bazar in Cuttack. He lived in this house with a large family of eight brothers and six sisters. His father Janakinath Bose was a lawyer by profession and a man of repute during his time. Subhas Bose passed Entrance examination from Ravenshaw Collegiate School in 1913 and thereafter went to Calcutta to pursue higher studies. Minister Jyoti Prakash Panigrahi was the chief guest at the event this morning, hoisting the national flag and laying a wreath at Netaji’s statue. However, due to the restriction of Covid, the visit to the museum has been curtailed on the occasion of Netaji Jayanti, as in other years. Visitors to the birthplace will be allowed to visit the Netaji statue with wreaths and sculptures. But cutbacks have been issued on go inside the
museum and visit the gallery.
