Woman Burns Dog Alive; FIR Lodged

Bhubaneswar: Dogs are the most trusted animals in humans. Dogs often have their own lives at stake. But humanity is dying in front of dogs. Within a week, there were two cases of dog killings in the capital. A dog was allegedly set on fire in Bhubaneswar’s old station area under Laxmisagar police limits late Saturday night. ‘Sewa Hi Sankalp’ animal welfare organisation has lodged an FIR against the woman at the police station. Cops have detained the woman for questioning while further investigation was underway. She has reportedly confessed to the crime. According to reports, the dog used to eat food by entering her house during her absence. She had earlier trashed the animal several times while a video of the incident went viral on social media platforms, recently. At around 4.30 pm yesterday, the woman crossed all limits of cruelty as she poured petrol on the dog and set it on fire. On being informed, members of the
organisation reached the spot and recovered the charred body. Couple of days ago, a man allegedly shot dead a stray dog and injured another in an act of revenge as the two animals killed some of his chickens in Jagamara area of the city. Accused Kitab Patnaik fired pellets from a shotgun killing the stray dog and leaving another critically injured. On being informed about the incident by locals, members of ‘Sewa Hi Sankalp’ animal welfare organisation reached the spot, rescued the dogs and rushed the animals to a veterinary hospital, where one of the dogs was declared dead. The injured one was undergoing treatment. The organisation has lodged a complaint against Patnaik at the Khandagiri police station. On the basis of the complaint, police have registered a case and started an investigation.The accused had absconded on knowing about the registration of the case. Till last reports came in, he was on the run and efforts were on by police to trace and nab him.
