Union Ministry Approves 2nd Phase Construction for Cheligada Project

Paralakhemundi: Union Forest & Environment Ministry approved for second phase construction for Cheligada Project of Gajapati district. Clearance signalled by above Ministry to start the project.That streamed up pleasure from all corners. At RUdayagiri block of Cheligada since 2005 work started. At that time project budget sanctioned a tune of ?52 crores.Now that budget extended to 936 crores 63 lakhs. On first phase for fully submerged areas families & partially submerged areas families compensations given & evacuation started.For them 7 rehabilitation colonies construction planned. As per update status 3 colonies construction completed & those submerged families are staying. Rest of 4 colonies are under construction. About 500 hectors of Gajapati district & 5760 hectors of Digapahandi & Sanakhemundi areas of Ganjam district will be irrigated by this project. Further 1cusec drinking water supply also can be supported. Farmers too can be self reliance with this project. From this project at Mankaddian waterfall through Hydro Electricity 36 Megawatt can be generated. Besides that at project area park & temple are to be constructed. That enlightened local people but they requested some more funds to government. So by state government estimated for 159 hectors of land. But central government sanctioned 139.9 hectors of forest land. As per FR Act 1980 this land sanctioned.That signalled for project construction. So preserve water can be used as irrigation & too for drinking water supply. Fishery & prawn farm activities can be a resources for those farmers. To activate the project the then 5T Secretary & now as Chairman of Naveen Odisha VKPandiyan visited on 28th April 2023 & interacted with those expected submerged families. Through 1280 meters of excavation canal inside the hill terminal construction reached at last stage. Through that terminal drinking water will be passed for Ganjam district.So those benefitted families, too, cooperated for fastest step taken by both state & central government. After forest land clearance those supposed submerged families rehabilitation of housing construction will be completed, said Addl. Chief Engineer of Nagavali-Vanshadhara Water Resources Narendranath Maharana.
