Govt Boosted Employment in Traditional Sectors: Modi

New Delhi: Prime MinisterNarendra Modi asserted onSaturday that his government hasboosted employment
opportunities in traditional aswell as emerging sectors likerenewable energy, defenceexports and automation.
Distributing appointmentletters at a virtual event to nearly51,000 people recruited indifferent government
departments as part of ‘RozgarMela’, he said the exerciseunderscores his government’scommitment to the youth in thecountry.The government is not onlyproviding employment but alsomaintaining a transparentrecruitment process and effortshave been made to restructure andstreamline the examinationprocedure, Modi stressed.
The prime minister noted thatlakhs of youngsters have beengiven appointment letters so farin the ‘Rozgar Mela’ beingorganised since October last yearby his government and the statesruled by the BJP and its allies.”Today, India is equipping itsyouths with skills and educationto harness emergingopportunities.”India’s trajectory and the pace
of its progress are generating newemployment prospects across allsectors,” he said.The prime minister said the
time taken for recruitment by theStaff Selection Commission hasbeen reduced to almost half.Exams are now being
conducted in 13 different regionallanguages apart from Hindi andEnglish to help the language
barrier for those affected, he said.He also spoke about the recentrecognition by UN bodies toseveral Indian places as tourismand heritage sites.The prime minister said aboost in tourism is adding toemployment sources and a similar
trend is being seen in sports asthe sector is growing, with Indianathletes performing better thanbefore.The government is strengthening traditional sectors providing employment opportunitiesand is also promoting new sectors such as renewable energy, space,automation and defence exports, he said and highlighted the growth in
the drone sector. The Khadi sector has seen a resurgence and hisgovernment has restored its lost glory, he said. It has registered a businessof more than Rs 1.25 lakh crore compared to a mere Rs 30,000 crore tenyears ago, he said, adding that this has created many jobs in the khadi andvillage industry sector, especially benefitting women. Initiatives to openmore medical colleges IITs, IIMs and IIITs have led to a boost in skillingand education that are equipping the youths to take full advantage of newopportunities, Modi said. “Today, you all are becoming important alliesin our journey of nation-building,” he told the recruits and also urgedthem to promote ‘vocal for local’ in the ongoing festival season.
