Bhubaneswar : Union Minister of Education and Skill Development Dharmendra Pradhan has requested the Union Textile Ministry to consider setting up a greenfield Textile park under PM MITRA scheme in Odisha.
Mr.Pradhan in a letter to Union Minister of Textile Piyush Goyal said considering its immense untapped potential in the sector,the textile park should be established and such a decision would go a long way in ensuring the success of Mission Purvodaya envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The Union Textile Ministry has recently announced plans to set up seven mega integrated textile region and apparel (MITRA) parks in the country to be developed by a special purpose vehicle owned by the central government and state government in a PPP mode.
The aim of such parks is to help Indian companies to emerge as global champions in the textile and apparel sector.
Mr Pradhan said companies like Shahi exports, Aditya Birla fashion and several others have already set up their manufacturing bases in Odisha.
Two textile and apparel parks are now under construction —one near Dhamra port and the other at Malipada near Bhubaneswar with the facilities like power, water and boundary walls.
This apart a textile park is being developed at Bhadrak which is s being anchored by a 300 KTPA IOCL Polyester and Fibre plant with committed feed stocks of 100 KTPA Polyester staple fibre, 165 KTPA Drown texturised yarn and 35 KTPA of fully Drawn yarn.
Mr Pradhan said Odisha has also an industrial policy and Apparel policy in place to ensure smooth clearance of the projects and provide adequate incentive to the industries.
Under the apparel policy capital grant of 20 percent of the project cost up to Rs 20 crore and interest free loan up to 10 percent ,maximum limit of Rs 10 crore is provided by the state to the industries presently.
Mr Pradhan said the state is one of the first to have a dedicated skill development authority, which develops customised training programmes for workers based on industry’s requirement.
He further said over the past few years Odisha has also emerged as the knowledge and skill hub.
with presence of globally recognised institutes of higher learning and research and skill development including CIPET, IIT,IIM, NIT, AIIMS, NISER, Skill development institute, Indian Oil ICT Odisha campus .
Mr.Pradhan said handlooms of Odisha have gained worldwide acclaim for their design and quality like Sambalpuri, Bomkei, Berhampur and is famous for its Ikat type of weaving and requested Mr Goyal to consider setting up a textile park under PM MITRA scheme in the state.
