Odisha reports record 69 deaths for sixth time on a single day, Covid toll rises to 7273

Bhubaneswar : For the sixth time during the second phase of covid pandemic,Odisha reported a record 69 covid deaths in the past 24 hours taking the total fatalities in the state to 7273.

Earlier in July, the state reported 69 deaths thrice on July 20, 22 and 27.

In August also to date on three occasions the state registered 69 deaths on August 2, 7 and August 19 last.

Health and Family Welfare department sources said out of 69 deaths registered in the state in the past 24 hours, Jagatsinghpur recorded a maximum of 12 deaths followed by Cuttack (11), Dhenkanal( 8), Six each in Jajpur and Bhadrak districts and 5 each in Khordha, Kendrapara and Angul districts.

During the period 986 new covid cases were reported in the state which included 574 from the quarantine centres and 412 local contact cases.

At least 128 children ( below 18 years) tested covid positive in the past 24 hours.

Khordha district reported the highest number of 373 cases followed by 139 in Cuttack district and these two coastal districts together accounted for 51.92 per cent of the covid tally registered in the past 24 hours.

The daily covid load which shut up to 1041 on August 18 last after remaining below 1000 mark for three days, again declined to less than 1000 in the past 24 hours.

The daily positivity rate ( TPR) in the state was recorded at 1.4 per cent in the past 24 hours and continued to remain less than 2 per cent since August 5 last.

However, only Kendrapara district in coastal Odisha had reported TPR above 5 per cent (5.1) while the other 29 districts recorded less than 5 per cent of which as many as 22 districts have registered less than one per cent.

The active cases further declined to 9578, about 0.9 per cent of the total covid tally in the state with Khordha and Cuttack districts reporting 3695 and 1333 cases respectively, registering 52.49 per cent of the total active cases in the state.

Sources said the recoveries in the state rose to 9,82,319 with the recovery of 1003 people from the virus on Thursday which is 98.31 per cent of the total covid tally in the state.
