Bhubaneswar : Odisha registered 8313 new covid cases and 35 deaths in the past 24 hours taking the total tally in the state to 7,64,997 with 2754 fatalities.
Sources said for the fifth consecutive day the state reported covid positive cases of less than 10,000 indicating a dip in the covid trend.
Health and Family Welfare department sources said out of 8313 reported from 30 districts in the past 24 hours 4655 were from the quarantine centres and 3658 are local contact cases.
Khordha district topped the list with 974 cases followed by Cuttack ( 593), Mayurbhanj (532), Angul (505), Sundargarh (465), Balasore (452) and Dhenknal (407 ).
The positivity rate which was above 22 per cent, has meanwhile come down to 14.5 per cent. In five districts it has further declined to less than 5 per cent.
Official sources said in the past 24 hours 35 more covid patients under treatment succumbed to the virus. The daily fatalities have for the second time stood 35 as earlier on May 25 also 35 covid patients died in the state.
Of the 35 covid toll, Angul reported a maximum number of five deaths followed by three each in six districts, two each in five districts and one each in two districts.
In May alone till date, the coronavirus has claimed 700 lives in the state while over 3 lakhs people tested covid positive.
The covid active cases in the state have been witnessing less than one lakh for the third consecutive day and declined to 91,663 on May 30 last. It was as high as over 10 K to 12 K from May 12 to May 25 last.
At least six districts in the state have reported less than 1000 active cases and Nuapada district has registered the lowest number of 490 active cases.
Meanwhile, the Odisha government has extended the statewide lockdown from June 1 to June 17 and announced some relaxations in three districts having less positivity rate.
Besides, the lockdown Odisha will also have the weekends shut down across the state in a bid to contain the spread of virus.
