Bhubaneswar, Apr 15 (UNI) Odisha reported a spike of 2989 new covid cases and two deaths in the past 24 hours taking the covid tally to 3,58,342 with 1935 fatalities.
Health and Family Welfare department sources said 2989 new covid infection cases were reported from 30 districts in the state which included 1783 from the quarantine centres and 1256 local contact cases.
Two Covid positive patients, a 70-year-old male of Keonjhar district and another 60-year-old female of Kalahandi district died in the state while under treatment in hospitals.
The covid 19 has so far claimed 1935 lives in the state and the number of active cases in the state have shown an unprecedented rise over the past few days and crossed 14000 mark.
Official sources said at least eight districts in the state have reported new covid cases more than one hundred,the highest being 631 registered from Sundargarh district.
The other districts which have reported high covid infection are Khordha (438),Kalahandi (260) Cuttack (208),Nuapada ( 151),Sambalpur ( 148).Bargarh ( 126) and Bolangir ( 110).
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has appealed to the people of the state to wear masks regularly to combat the covid 19 situation without lockdown.
“We all have been greatly affected by the Lockdown like situations in the past in containing Covid infection but this time we will not allow it to create such situation”, he said.
Official sources said the shortage of vaccines has badly affected the ongoing inoculation drive as session sites in as many as 10 of the 30 districts in the state have been closed due to non availability of required doses.
Health department officials said only 71401 people were administered with the vaccines against a target of over two lakh on Wednesday as over 900 vaccine centres were closed.
