Bhubaneswar : Odisha government has asked the district administration to remain more alert to counter the possible third wave of Covid 19 in the state.
Odisha Chief Secretary S C Mohapatra directed all District Collectors, Police Superintendents and Chief Medical Officers through a video conferencing to remain alert and prepared after a new variant of concern -Omicron was found in certain countries.
Mr Mohapatra said there is a need to be extra cautious as after the second wave all schools and colleges started classes and all institutions and organisations have restarted their activities.
The Chief Secretary directed the Collectors to collect information about the situation from every area through BDOs, Sarapanches ward members Anganwadi workers, village, Panchayat level government employees and volunteers and take immediate action after Covid is reported from anywhere.
Genomic sequencing should be done while conducting covid tests, the Chief Secretary said.
He directed the officials to strictly implement the Covid 19 guidelines like wearing of face mask, maintaining social distancing and using sanitiser and to take legal action against the violators.
The Chief Secretary wanted the simplification of the process for the payment of compensation to the kin of the Covid patients who died of the disease.
In addition to it, the Chief Secretary was also directed to expedite the door to door vaccination campaign.
Additional Chief Secretary Health and Family Welfare R K Sharma said since the new variant has a high number of mutations and is believed to be more infectious hundred per cent of vaccination of all people above the age of 18 will act as a deterrent.
