Odisha: Covid tally surges to 10,18,926 with 628 new cases in past 24 hours

Bhubaneswar : The covid tally in Odisha today surged to 10,18,926 with the detection of 628 new cases in the past 24 hours.

Health and Family Welfare department sources said out of the 628 positive cases,367 were reported from the quarantine centres and 261 as local contact cases.

At least four coastal districts –Khordha, Cuttack, Jajpur and Jagatsinghopur have together reported 408 cases, almost 65 per cent of the total new cases reported in the past 24 hours.

Khordha district has the highest number of 291 cases while other districts have less than 100 cases, a majority of the districts, however, recorded single-digit positive cases.

The covid fatalities in the state rose to 8122 after four more deaths were recorded as covid deaths during the health audit, official sources said today.

As many as 681 people were cured on Thursday taking the total recoveries in the state to 10,04,845 while the active cases stood at 5906 which included a majority of 2527 from Khordha district followed by 742 in Cuttack district.

Both Khordha and Cuttack districts together contributed 55 per cent of the total active cases in the state.

The test positivity rate in the state recorded one per cent in the past 24 hours. Barring Khordha and Cuttack districts, all the other 28 districts have registered a test positivity rate of less than two per cent.

While Khordha recorded a 2.6 per cent test positivity rate, Cuttack registered 2.1 per cent. The state which has been maintaining the test positivity rate below 2 per cent since August six last, has now been witnessing a decline in the TPR registering less than one per cent since the last four days from September 12 last.


Meanwhile, the authority today closed the Sub collector and Tahasil office in the State capital till September 21 next after four employees from these two offices tested covid positive.
