Odisha Assly paralysed for third day over dismissal, arrest of MoS Dibya Shankar Mishra in Mamita Meher murder case

Bhubaneswar : The functioning of Odisha Assembly was paralysed for the third consecutive day today by the Opposition BJP and Congress members over the Mamita Meher murder case.

Speaker S N Patro has to adjourn the house till 1600hrs today in two phases without transacting any business in the pre lunch session due to vociferous protest by the opposition members.The Speaker first adjourned the house at 1030hrs till 1130 hrs and again a minute after till 1600 hrs.

As soon as the house assembled for the day to take up the business, the BJP and the Congress members carrying posters and shouting slogans stormed into the well of the house.

They reiterated their demand for the sacking and arrest of the Minister of state for Home Dibya Shankar Mishra for his alleged involvement in the Mamita Meher murder case.

While BJP demanded a CBI probe into the incident the Congress demanded a court monitored SIT probe.Some members also tried to climb up the speaker’s podium but were prevented by the watch and ward staff.

Speaker S N Patro, unable to conduct the business, adjourned the house till 1130 seconds after the house assembled for the day.The house was again adjourned till 1600 hours as the opposition continued their agitation disrupting the business of the house.

Both the BJP and the Congress alleged that Mr Mishra is involved in the murder of school teacher Mamita Meher.Both the parties have been organising protests and demonstration across the state in support of their demands for the last two months.

After the house was adjourned the BJP members launched an innovative protest outside the house.The BJP members led by Opposition Chief Whip Mohan Majhi cleaned the assembly premises outside the house and sprinkled ganga jal and water mixed with cow dung to purify the assembly premises.

The opposition said the assembly has lost its sanctity after due to the presence of Mishra in the house .

The minister of state for Home has been attending the house since the commencement of the winter on December 1. On Thursday, he even laid some reports in the house notwithstanding the protest by the opposition members.

The Congress members carrying placards also held demonstrations outside the house demanding the arrest and sacking of Mr.Mishra.

Opposition Chief Whip Mohan Majhi and Congress leader Taraprasad Bahinipati said they would continue their agitation till their demands were met.

Meanwhile the district party units of the BJP held a demonstration at the master canteen by beating bells demanding sacking and arrest of Mr.Mishra.The BJP members said they wanted to wake up the Chief Minister who is in a deep slumber and take action against the accused Minister.

They said although they have been agitating for the last around two months but the Chief Minister has been keeping mum over the issue and not taking any action against Mr.Mishra.

Meanwhile, the ruling BJD members accompanied by hundreds of their supporters continued their dharna in front of the Governor’s house for the third day today in protest against the hike in essential commodities ,rise in prices of cooking gas, and fuel prices.

The BJD members said they would continue their stir till the Union government initiated steps to roll back the price hike.
