Odisha: 65 more succumb to covid in past 24 hours, Death toll mounts to 5768

Bhubaneswar : Covid claimed 65 more lives in Odisha in the past 24 hours taking the total fatalities in the state to 5768.
The test positivity in the state further reduced to 2.09 as out of 76,946 tests conducted in the state in the past 24 hours, 1615 test covid positive, taking the total covid tally to 9,74,132.

The total recovery surged to 9,51,049 with 1699 covid patients being cured on Wednesday. The active cases further declined to 17,262.

Official sources said 937 new cases were reported from the quarantine centres and 618 local contact cases from all the 30 districts in the state in the past 24 hours.

Khordha district recorded a maximum of 414 new cases followed by Cuttack ( 229) and Puri (123). These three coastal Odisha districts together accounted for 49.16 per cent of the new cases found in the past 24 hours.

Out of 65 fatalities reported from 22 districts in the past 24 hours, Khordha registered the highest number of nine deaths followed by Bargarh ( 7), Sundargarh ( 6) and five each in Sambalpur and Jharsuguda.

Three coastal districts such as Khordha, Cuttack and Balasore have together recorded 46.2 per cent of the total active cases in the state.

Khordha has a maximum number of 473 active cases followed by Cuttack (2185) and Balasore(1064). The rest 27 districts in the state have active cases of less than 1000 each.

As far as the test positivity rate is concerned, the coastal district of Kendrapara has the highest TPR of 5.4 per cent. The other 29 districts have a TPR of less than 5 per cent, fourteen of them have a TPR of less than 1 per cent.
