MinisterAdvises All Officials to Take Care of Child Labor

Bhubaneswar: A state-level workshop on the abolition of child labor was organized by the State Insurance Department of Labor and Employees on the occasion of World Child Labor Day today. Labor Minister Srikanta Sahu was the chief guest and urged all officials at the district level to take care of child labor by strictly enforcing the law. At the urging of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, he said that efforts were needed in all areas to make Odisha a child labor-free state by 2025. Prior to the launch of the festival, the Minister of Labor inaugurated a photo gallery of various awareness programs held at the state and district levels from 29.06.2022. In addition, the Minister also unveiled posters, stickers and  films on child labor to raise awareness at various levels. The workshop was attended by the Chief Administrative Secretary of the Department of Labor, Mrs. Chitra Arumugam, as the keynote speaker,
highlighting the need for a special education system for the identification of child laborers. At the panchayat level, with the help of volunteers, the village council discussed the need for regular children and the need for cooperation. Some students and youths from Keonjhar, Khordha, Dhenkanal and Mayurbhanj who have been rescued from child labor and returned to the mainstream of society have also joined the workshop to highlight the need for education and how the government’s urgent steps are giving a new direction to life. In the workshop, Labor Commissioner Dr. Tirumla Naik gave a welcome address and briefed on various aspects of the law. He also highlighted the 15- day awareness campaign launched on May 29 in collaboration with various social organizations. Mrs. Sandhyabati Pradhan, Chairperson of the Odisha State Child Protection Commission, Monica Nielsen, Head of Odisha UNICEF, were the special guests. The workshop was
attended by labor officials from all districts, child protection officers and education officers from 16 districts, as well as senior officials from schools and public education departments and women and child development departments. In addition, leading social organizations such as Peacock, CA. C.L., AidAdAction, IJ’s representatives also attended and spoke about the need for a concerted effort. Bhubaneswar Joint Labor Commissioner offered thanks.
