NUAPADA/KHARIAR ROAD, June 3 : Nuapada Police achieved a major breakthrough after Jonk Police raided an illegal gambling den and arrested 22 gamblers.

Jonk police team led by SI Bishnu Prashad Pradhan conducted raid at the Jhalbahal forest area under Jonk police station limits and busted an illegal gambling den on Tuesday night at about 10 pm. During the raid, Police seized Rs 3,56,055/- in cash, 6 motorcycles, 20 mobile phones and playing items from the accused. However two accused persons namely Dadu Khan of Khariar Road and Raju Khan of Nuapada managed to flee from the spot during the raid.
The 22 arrested persons were identified as Gauri Shankar Thanapati (40), Jagannath Meher (30), Alekhram Jain (50), Laxmichanda Rout (50), Sarfarash Khan (28), Mengraj Sahu (27), Kunjram Sahu (38), Jugal Kishore Chandrakar (21), Subash Singh (53), Dinesh Sahu (38), Rakesh Sonwani (24), Mohammad Wasim (27), Moin Khan (33), Ashok Bhoi (48), Raymati Saraf (65), Akbar Dandasana (32), Dhalendra Sahu (36), Rupendra Kumar Sahu (40), Hemlal Satnami (26), Durgeswar Sahu (31), Mahendra Tandon (28) and Jayesh Sahu (44). The arrested individuals include residents from Nuapada, Balangir, and Mahasamund districts.
A case has been registered in Jonk Police Station on case No.182 U/s- 111(4)/112(2) BNS/ r.w. sec 03 OPG Act. Officials confirmed that eight of the arrested accused already have multiple gambling and criminal cases pending against them at various police stations.SP Amritpal Singh, ASP Ranjeet Nayak, DSP Swadhin Mishra and IIC Jonk Police Station Pradeep Kumar Dharua shared details of the operation at the press briefing.
