Daily positivity rises to 10.2 pc in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The daily positivity rate in Odisha rose to 10.2 per cent as 7071 new covid positive cases were reported from 69018 tests from all the 30districts in the past 24 hours taking the total tally in the state to 10,82,769.
Official sources said the covid positive cases jumped from 4829 to 7071 in a single day while the test positivity rate significantly soared to 10.2 per cent from 6.5 per cent recorded on Monday.
After over seven months gap the daily covid load in Odisha surpasses the 7000 mark as on June4 last year the state recorded 7395 covid cases.
Health and Family Welfare department sources said out of 7071 new cases, 4128 were reported from the quarantine centres and 2943 as local contact cases. As many as 707 positive cases were recorded in the age group of 0 to 18 years.
Khordha district has registered the highest number of 2226 new cases (31.4 per cent) followed by Sundargarh ( 1147), Sambalpur ( 609) and Cuttack(505). These four districts together accounted for 63.4 per cent of the new cases in the state.
Eight more districts in the state also recorded more than 100 covid cases in the past 24hours.They are Mayurbhanj( 201),Balasore( 198),Bolangir (190), Puri ( 156),Jharsuguda(143),Jajpur (130)Gajam (111) and Koraput (107).
The state also witnessed a record surge in the active cases after a gap of over six months.
The active cases on a single day jumped from 20,650 to 27,216.
On July 8 last year, Odisha reported 27,429 active cases.
Khordha district reported the highest number of 8609 active cases followed by Sundargarh(4138), Sambalpur (2511) and Cuttack ( 2000). Khordha, Sundargarh and Sambalpur districts have been declared as Red Zone and Cuttack as the yellow zone in view ofhigh active cases.
Sundargarh and Sambalpur, both in Western Odisha have recorded the test positivity rate over20 per cent while Khordha and Jharsuguda reported over ten per cent. All these four districts are now considered as Red Zone for high positivity rate.
Five districts such as Mauyurbhanj (6.9 per cent), Puri(6.8 per cent), Balasore (6.1 percent) Nabarangpur ( 5.4 per cent) and Rayagada(5.1 per cent) have been declared as Yellow zones.
