CM Naveen announces special package for OMFED Dairy Farmers

Bhubaneswar : Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday announced covid assistance for the dairy farmers of Odisha Milk Federation (OMFED). Official sources said a maximum amount of up to Rs 6,000 can be provided to each farmer towards the fodder cost. It will cost Rs 11 crore to the state exchequer and benefit 1.20 lakh dairy farmers.

Making the announcement, Mr Patnaik said dairy farming plays an important role in the rural economy and helped in improving the livelihood of the small and marginal farmers.

Since the demand for milk and other milk products has been drastically reduced during the covid pandemic it has severely affected the livelihood of the dairy farmers, he said.

The government announced the assistance keeping this in view and hoped that it would help in improving the financial condition of the farmers, Mr Patnaik said adding that the Covid pandemic has adversely
affected the economy of the world and Odisha.

During the pandemic, while Agriculture and its allied sectors have acted as ‘Sanjeevani’ in strengthening the economy of the state, the economy in all other sectors have slowed down, he said.

The Chief Minister appreciated the way the farmers have continued their agricultural production activities with courage during the shutdown and lock down period.
