Brajarajnagar MLA & Former Speaker Kishore Mohanty Passed Away yesterday by Heartattack.

Sambalpur,Jharsuguda: In a shocking incident former Odisha Assembly Speaker, WesternOdisha Development Council (WODC) Chairman and BJD MLA from Brajarajnagar Kishore Mohanty died of massive cardiac arrest at a private hospital in Jharsuguda on Thursday evening.

Mohanty, a four time MLA and a popular leader of Western Odisha, became sick after attending a condolence meeting of a party worker this evening .During that meeting he started sweating profusely.The party workers rushed him to a private hospital where he breathed his last during treatment.

A veteran political leader of western Odisha, Mohanty was elected to the Assembly from Jharsuguda thrice. He was the Government Chief Whip for four years during 2004 to 2008 and also elected to the Rajya Sabha.

Mohanty began his political career from Janata Dal as a close associate of Biju Patnaik. At a very young age, he became the MLA of Jharsuguda in the year 1990.

He was elected to Odisha Assembly thrice from Jharsuguda constituency.During the lastAssembly election he was elected from Brajrajnagar seat defeating sitting BJP MLA.
He was the speaker of the Odisha Assembly from 2008 to 2009 and elected to Rajya Sabha in
2009 for three years.

Mohanty has major contribution in the formation of Jharsuguda as a district when Biju Patnaik
was Chief Minister of Odisha. Mohanty is survived by his wife, one daughter and one son .

In 2019 elections, he won the Brajrajnagar assembly seat. Political leaders across the party line including Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Andhra Pradesh Governor Biswa Bhusan Harichandan and Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan expressed deep grief over the sudden death of MLA Kishore Mohanty. Political leaders from BJD, Congress and BJP and people from all walks of life have condoled the sudden demise of Mohanty .
