MEMU Train Derails After Hitting Cow

Sambalpur: A MEMU passenger train derailed in Odisha’s Sambalpur on Wednesday evening. No one was injured in the mishap, Railway officials said. As per preliminary information, the train was on its way to Sambalpur from Jharsuguda when it derailed near Sarala after hitting a cow. While travelling on SarlaSambalpur section, four wheels of a coach of 08169 Jharsuguda -Sambalpur MEMU Passenger Special got off track at about 6.25 pm after hitting a cow, which entered the track all of a sudden. Trolley of the 4th coach from front loco got off the track, East Coast Railway (ECoR) said in a statement. While one line got blocked, there was no report of injury to anyone, it said. Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), Sambalpur and his team reached the spot and restoration work is going on. Accident Relief Train with necessary relief materials for track restoration has also reached the spot along with medical aid. A team of Odisha Fire Services led by Assistant Fire Officer (AFO), Sambalpur also rushed to the spot and assisted in removing the derailed coach. Arrangements were made for taking the train to Sambalpur station with second engine, informd DGP Fire Services, Dr Sudhanshu Sarangi. A railway official said that rerailment was done at 8.30 pm and track was declared fit at 8.35 pm with caution speed of 30 kmph for train movement.
