Bhubaneswar : Train services in Dhenkanal-Sambalpur Rail Section have been affected after nine wagons of a Goods Train derailed between Angul and Talcher Road single line Railway Section and capsized.

East Coast Railway(ECoR) sources said the Goods Train from Firozepur to Khurda Road left Angul Station at 0215hrs and derailed between Angul and Talcher Road, about 2km from Talcher Road at about 0235hrs.

Train services in Dhenkanal-Sambalpur Rail Section were affected forcing the railway authority to cancel, divert, short terminate and reschedule some trains.

The Divisional Railway Manager, Khurda Road has rushed to the site and is reviewing the restoration and derailment works.

Railway sources said the prima facie cause of the derailment was due to a bank slip-on box Bridge approach due to a flash flood.

The Box girder is intact but the retaining walls on both sides have been damaged. The track on the approach to the bridge on the left side from Angul side has been washed out

A Crane from Sambalpur will tackle wagons from the Angul side and a crane from Khurda Road will tackle the engine and then wagons from Talcher side.

Heavy water flow is continuing near the washout area and JCB has been mobilized to create a diversion to reduce water flow for filling the breach.
