CUTTACK: The Commissionerate Police on Friday have arrested six touts on the charge of diverting patients from government-run SCB Medical College and Hospital to private healthcare facilities in Cuttack city.
The arrested persons included two employees of the premiere medical college hospital and four private ambulance drivers.
“The police will continue its drive to keep the government hospitals free of middlemen and to ensure quality healthcare services to patients”, said Cuttack Deputy Commissioner of Police Prateek Singh.
It has been found that the touts or the middlemen operate as agents on commission basis by private healthcare institutes to reroute the inpatients from government hospitals. The poor and illiterate patients often become their soft targets. These touts also operate on a payment basis by private diagnostic centres to fleece poor patients. Alleged nexus of more staff and doctors with the gang of touts may not be ruled out. All aspects of the racket of agents are being looked into, he said.
