STF arrest one person, seize two leopard skins

Bhubaneswar : The Special Task Force (STF) team of the Odisha Crime Branch in association with the Forest officials have arrested a person and seized two leopard skins from his possession in Boudh district.

STF sources here today said acting on a tip off,the team with the help of Boudh Forest officials conducted a raid near Kapsira village under Manmunda Forest Range yesterday and arrested accused Jibardhan Bhoi of Dundee village under Kantamal Police station

During the search operation two leopard skins and other incriminating materials were seized from his possession. He was arrested while trying to sell the skins to a trader.

Bhoi was handed over to forest officials for necessary legal action and investigation is on.

During last one year special drive against the wildlife criminals and poachers the STF has arrested 36 wild life criminals and seized as many as 18 Leopard skin, nine Elephant Tusk, two deer skin, five live pangolin and 15 kg of pangolin scales from their possession

The STF is the specialized wing of Odisha Police to curb the organized crime in the State.

In another incident the Forest officials with the help of local police have seized a live pangolin from Chikki chowk on the Papadahandi Nabarangpur road in Nabarangpur district and arrested four people in this connection.

Nabarangpur Range ACF D Mohapatra said acting on reliable information a joint raid was conducted yesterday while the criminals were trying to strike a deal with a trader to sell the wild animal.

Police also seized two bikes and some weapons from their possession.
