Khurda Road: As Diwali festival is approaching, Khurda road divison has launched special safety drives to keep a strict vigil on carrying inflammable materials like Crackers, Gas Cylinders, Acid, Petrol, Kerosene, etc. in trains for the safety of the passengers. The drives include random and surprise check of luggage & parcel vans for explosive materials before loading in SLRs by Railway officials in coordination with GRP, RPF and Civil defence officials. Availability of adequate fire extinguishers in trains and stations is also being ensured. The functioning of Smoke and fire detection alarm system provided in power cars, pantry cars and coaches are being checked. The onboard staff were counseled and explained about the operating of fire extinguishers. Apart from this, Khurda road division is also conducting awareness programmes, urging passengers to be careful and not to carry and also not let their co-passengers carry, inflammable or explosive objects while travelling in trains. Passengers can call Help Line Number 139 to report any incident concerning carrying crackers in trains. Shri H.S.Bajwa, Divisional Railway Manager, Khurda Road has advised all the officers to have a strict vigil on carrying inflammable materials in trains and stations and every effort to be taken to ensure the safety of passengers.
