Ruling BJD resorts to dharna, demonstrations to protest hike in prices of LPG in Odisha

Bhubaneswar : The ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Monday launched a three day dharna cum demonstrations in Odisha protesting against what it called an unprecedented hike in the priceof LPG gas.

The leaders and activists of Biju Mahila Janata Dal, Biju Yuva Janata Dal and Biju Chhatra Janata Dal,the three wings of the BJD protested outside the Revenue Divisional Commissioner (RDC) (Central Range) office at Cuttack and all Block offices under its jurisdiction Similar protests and dharna were also organized before the IOCL office in Bhubaneswar and ADM office in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar by the party.

In a novel protest the Biju Mahila Janata dal members were seen keeping an empty LPG gads cylinder and preparing tea on an earthen “chulla” with fire wood to lodge protest on the steep hike of the price of the LPG gas which the party said is beyond the reach of a common man.

The demonstrators shouted slogan against the Modi government for its failure in checking the high price of the LPG gas and threatened that the party would intensify the agitation across the state till the centre reduced the price.

The party would stage protest demonstration before the RDC office in Sambalpur and all the block offices under its zone tomorrow while similar protests and dharna will be organized on November 24 before the RDC office at Berhumpur and also all the block offices under its jurisdiction.

The Biju Mahila Janata Dal had earlier on November 1 last resorted to protest demonstrations in all the 147 assembly constituencies against the hike in the prices of petrol, diesel and cooking gas.

The Biju Yuva Janata Dal and the Biju Chhatra Janata Dal had also organized demonstrations and dharna before the petrol pumps for two days on November 6 and 7 against the hike in the prices of petrol and diesel.
