Bhubaneswar : Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan today requested the central government to set up 19 more Pressure Swing Absorption (PSA) medical Oxygen plants in Odisha for effective treatment of covid patients.

Mr Pradhan in a letter to Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Harsha Vardhan requested him to set up the PSA plants in 15 districts of the state.

He said the PSA plants are required in addition to 21 PSA plants being set up in various districts of the state and sought the personal intervention of the Union Health Minister for the purpose.

India, Mr.Pradhan said, is facing one of its toughest battles against the second wave of Covid 19.

As cases surge exponentially across the country Prime Minister has bolstered the ongoing concerted drive against the pandemic by taking several more critical initiatives and decisions to extend all possible assistance to states in battling the spread of the virus.

Mr Pradhan said last month the Prime Minister had accorded emergency approval for installation of 551 dedicated PSA plants in Public health facilities across the country from PM Cares Fund in addition to 162 PSA plants allocated earlier.

He said it has been decided to set up 21 PSA Plants in various districts of Odisha . Out of it 7 are being set up by DRDO, seven by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas and the rest seven by the Union government.

However, due to the widespread impact of Covid 19 second wave in Odisha more districts need to be covered and supported further, he said.

Mr Pradhan requested to set up two PSA plants each in Balasore, Bolangir,Ganjam, Mayurbhanj district and one each in Deogarh, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Kendrapara, Khordha, Koraput, Puri, Rayagada, Sambalpur and Sonepur district.
