Bhubaneswar : Odisha today registered a record 21 covid deaths from eleven districts in the past 24 hours pushing the total fatalities in the state to 2,161.
At the same time, 11,807 new covid cases were detected from all the 30 districts which included 6613 from the quarantine centres and 5149 local contact cases.
Taking to tweeter Health and Family Welfare department sources said “regret to inform that about 21 people undergoing treatment in various hospitals succumbed to the virus.
They included four from Kalahandi district, two each from Angul, Bhadrak, Cuttack and Sundargarh district and one each from nine other districts.
Official sources said with the fresh 11,807 new cases the covid tally in the state surged to 5,24,207 and the active cases rose to 90,335.
The positive cases which were a little over four per cent last month have gone up to 5.01 per cent. So far 4,31,658 people have already been recovered from the infection.
Three districts such as Sundargarh, Khordha and Cuttack have witnessed a sharp rise in covid cases in the past few days.
In the past 24 hours, Sundargarh has registered 1922 new cases followed by Khordha (1510) and Cuttack (1052). At least ten districts in the state have reported more than 400 covid positive cases.
As of today, Khordha topped the district tally with 82,149 covid cases followed by Cuttack (41378), Sundargarh (37,650), Ganjam ( 26266), Puri (22,111) and Balasore (16,202).
In case of covid fatalities, Khordha district recorded the highest number of 383 deaths followed by Ganjam (263), Sundargarh ( 207), Cuttack ( 150 ) Puri ( 131) and Balasore (100).
Odisha Police sources said till May 7 last as many as 383 tankers/containers carrying 7007. 436 of medical oxygen have been escorted to ten states from Rourkela, Jajpur, Dhenkanal and Angul districts by police escorts.
