Bhubaneswar : Odisha reported 779 new covid positive cases and 68 deaths in the past 24 hours taking the total tally in the state to 10,05,654 with 7765 fatalities.
Health and Family Welfare department sources said out of 71,137 tests conducted in the past 24 hours 454 new infections were recorded from the quarantine centres and 325 local contact cases from 29 districts registering 1.09 percent test positivity rate.
Out of 779 new cases, Khordha district recorded the highest number of 259 cases followed by 84 in Cuttack district.These two districts contributed 44 percent of the total new cases registered in the state.
At least 68 more deaths were recorded during the health audit from various districts pushing the total covid toll in the state to 7765 which is 0.7 percent of the total tally in the state .
Out of 68 fatalities, a maximum number of 25 deaths were recorded from Cuttack district followed by seven each from Khordha and Kendrapara , six from Jagatsnghpur and five each from Angul and Mayurbhanj districts.
The four coastal districts of Khordha,Cuttack,Kendrapara and Jagatsinghpur together accounted for 66.17percent of the total fatalities reported in the past 124 hours.
As many as 986 covid patients were cured on Friday taking the total recoveries in the state to 9,89,840 which is 98.42 percent of the total covid cases recorded in the state.
The active cases in the state further declined to 7996 which included 3094 from Khordha district and 985 from Cuttack district. These two coastal districts alone accounted for 51.01 percent of the total active cases in the state.
.The test positivity rate(TPR) of the state has been witnessing less than 2 percent since August 5 last and has come down to 1.09 percent in the last 24 hours.
As many as 22 districts in the state have recorded less than 1 percent TPR in the past 24 hours .
The highest TPR of 2.8 percent was registered in Khordha district followed by 2.6 percent in Cuttack district.
