Bhubaneswar : Amid indication of possibility of community transmission in the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, Odisha reported 6988 new covid cases and 12 fatalities in the past 24 hours.
The experts in the state health department has sounded community transmission of covid 19 in the state capital and Cuttack city after both the cities registered an alarming rise in the covid cases in the past few days.
They have also suggested the government take some stringent and tough measures to prevent the community transmission otherwise the situation would be out of control in the coming days. The state government, considering the gravity of the situation, has imposed night curfew in all urban areas and clamped weekend shutdown.
State capital Bhubaneswar and the Cuttack city have been reporting a maximum number of covid positive cases everyday in comparison to other cities in the state.Official sources said in the past 24 hours 4054 covid infection cases were reported from the quarantine centres and 2944 local contact cases from 30 districts in the state.
A record 12 covid patients under treatment succumbed to the virus in the past 24 hours taking the total covid fatalities in the state to 2029.Khordha district reported maximum four deaths followed by two each in Puri and Raygada and one each in Angul,Cuttack, Keonjhar and Sundargarh district.
With the fresh 6988 covid cases the tally in the state soared to 4,35,513 while the recovery cases rose to 3,75,721 with as many as 4521 covid patients cured on Wednesday.The number of active cases in the state shut up to 57,710 while the state crossed the milestone of one crore tests.
Taking to the tweeter, the Health deparment said “ Proud to share that today Odisha has crossed the milestone of over One Crore #COVID19 tests! We salute our silent Covid Warriors who continue to work round the clock in laboratories and testing centres.”
Official sources said till midnight of April 28, as many as 1,00,41,204 tests were conducted in the state and the government has drawn up a strategy to conduct over 50,000 tests.
The state capital till midnight of April 28, has reported 42445 positive cases, of which 35674 have been cured and the active cases stand at 6493.The covid 19 has so far claimed over 260 lives.
