Odisha reports 69 covid deaths in past 24 hours for third time, fatalities jump to 6120

Bhubaneswar : For the third time Odisha reported a record 69 covid deaths in the past 24 hours taking the total fatalities in the state to 6120.

Earlier on July 22 and July 27, the state recorded 69 covid deaths.

Health and Family Welfare department sources said out of 69 deaths reported in the past 24 hours, a maximum 23 fatalities were recorded from Khordha district alone followed by Cuttack (9),Puri (7) and kendrapara ( 6).

Both Khordha and Cuttack districts together accounted for 46 per cent of covid deaths in the past 24 hours. These two districts also recorded 46 per cent of total covid positive cases reported in the past 24 hours.

Officials said 1129 new infections were reported in the state in the past 24 hours from all the 30 districts with Khordha registering the highest number of 388 cases followed by Cuttack ( 135 ). The other 28 districts in the state reported less than 100 cases.

Till midnight of August 2 last as many as 1,62,23,921 tests were conducted in the state and out of the 9,80.866 were found infected with covid positive. However, 9,60,386 of them had already been recovered from the virus including 1785 cured on Monday last.

The active cases further declined to 14, 325 of which Khordha district alone recorded 4150 cases, registering about 29 per cent of the total active cases in the state.

The test positivity rate(TPR) in the state shut up marginally from 1.53 per cent on Sunday to 1.9 per cent in the past 24 hours.

Significantly for the second time, all the 30 districts in the state reported TPR of less than 5 per cent. The highest TPR of 3.5 per cent was reported from the Cuttack district. About half of Odisha ( 15 districts) have, however, recorded TPR of less than one per cent.
