Odisha reports 3108 Covid +ve cases in a single day, three deaths

Bhubaneswar, Apr 16 (UNI) Odisha reported a spike of over 3000 covid positive cases and three deaths in the past 24 hours.

Health and Family Welfare Department sources said 3108 covid cases were detected from 30 districts and state pools in the past 24 hours which included 1806 from quarantine centres and 1302 local contact cases.

During the past 24 hours one each covid patient under treatment succumbed to the virus in Bolangir, Ganjam and Sambalpur district taking the total covid toll in the state to 1938.

Official sources said as many as ten of the 30 districts in the state reported over 100 covid positive cases and the highest number of 523 cases being reported from Sundargarh district followed by Khordha(534), Cuttack (163) Sambalpur( 153), Balasore(151) and Nuapada (140).

Meanwhile, in the interest of public health and containment of spread of Covid-19 in the State, the government has announced weekend shutdown on Saturday and Sunday from April 17 in all urban areas of the districts of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Bolangir, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Nawrangpur, Koraput and Milkangiri.

A Night Curfew which was in force in these districts from 10 PM to 6 AM would be imposed from 6.00 PM to 5.00 AM everyday from tomorrow.

However, Night Curfew shall be in force in all urban areas of other 20 districts of the State, from 9 PM to 5 AM everyday from April 17 next.

Sources said till midnight of April 15 covid tests have been conducted on 95,28,182 people in the state of which 3,61,450 were found infected with coronavirus.

However, 3,42,7590 of these have been cured till date and the active cases have gone up to 16,889.

The state government as a precautionary measure has decided to suspend the inter- state bus service and made RT-PCR negative as mandatory or seven days quarantine for the people coming to the state.
