Bhubaneswar : Odisha reported fresh 10,321 covid positive cases and 22 deaths in the past 24 hours pushing the covid tally in the state to 633302 and 2357 fatalities.
Health and Family Welfare department sources said 5779 positive cases from the quarantine centres and 4542 local contact cases were reported from 30 districts in the state in the past 24 hours.
With the recovery of 11821 people from coronavirus on Monday, the total recoveries in the state had shut up to 5,26,353 while the active cases stood at 1,04,539.
In May alone till date the state has reported 1,78,695 covid positive cases, 303 deaths and 1,40,103 recoveries.
The covid positive cases continued to report over 10,000 to 12,000 from May 5, the day the state government imposed two weeks complete lockdown in the state besides weekend shutdown.
Sources said during the last fortnight, covid positive cases surpassed 12000 mark on May 6 and May 13 while it shut up to above 11,000 mark on three occasions on May 7,14 and May 15.
However, there has been a slight decline in the covid cases during the past three days from 11,805 infections on May 14 to 10,321 on May 17 last.
The active cases in the state continued to remain above one lakh mark since May 12 although there has been a slight dip in the cases in the past three days.
The government has decided to launch a three- month house-to-house survey for Covid symptoms and co-morbid conditions by the ASHAs and AWWs from May 24 next across the state.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced the survey while addressing an all party meeting here on Monday on covid situation and management in the state.
The state Congress on Monday has demanded a monthly assistance of Rs 6000 to every jobless poor and low salaried people during the Covid pandemic.
A resolution in this regard was unanimously passed at a digital meeting presided over by Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee President Niranjan Patnaik.
The resolution said people below the poverty line, unemployed, tribals, harijans, low salaried people and the families of migrant workers were leading a miserable life due to imposition of
shutdowns and lockdowns.
The government, it said, should be sympathetic to their problem and provide them a monthly financial assistance of Rs 6000 till the covid problem is over. The meeting also demanded the state government to publish a white paper on Covid management and vaccination.
AICC General Secretary and Party in charge of Odisha A Chella Kumar and his Deputy and AICC Secretary Rudra Raju participated at the meeting. The Congress expressed its concern over the mismanagement in vaccination, inefficiency of the Union government and required cooperation of the state government and appealed to the Prime Minister to rise above politics and provide vaccine, medicines, injections and ventilators to Odisha.
Meanwhile, the Special Facility by the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) in the city to provide COVID testing at the doorstep for senior citizens received a good response on Monday.
BMC sources said 222 tests were done for senior citizens in the city on Monday.
BMC Commissioner and CEO Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited Sanjay Kumar Singh has said the testing facilities would be strengthened and all age groups would get proper attention for the testing through urban primary health centres, urban community health centres, special facilities and the mobile testing vans across the corporation limits.
