Bhubaneswar : Odisha reported a record 59 fatalities and 2601 covid positive cases in the past 24 hours taking the covid tally in the state to 4358.
Health and Family Welfare department sources said 59 covid deaths were reported from 17 districts with Khordha registering the highest number of 10 deaths.
Bargarh, Dhenkanal and Puri districts reported five fatalities each while four each died in Ganjam, Nayagarh, Sundargarh and Rayagada districts.
The state on July 4 registered the highest number of 52 deaths. With fresh 59 deaths, the total toll in the state rose to 4358.
Official sources said out of 4358 deaths, as high as 3041 people have died of covid infection from May 1 till date.
In the past 24 hours 2602 new infections were reported from all the 30 districts in the state taking the total tally in the state to 9,29,788.
While 1495 cases were reported from the quarantine centres,1107 were local contact cases. Khordha district has the highest number of 529 cases followed by Cuttack (397), Jajpur ( 183), Puri ( 174) and Balasore (164 ).
On Tuesday 3258 covid patients were recovered from the virus pushing the total recoveries in the state to 8,97,362. The active cases further reduced to 28,015.
At least three districts- Khordha, Cuttack and Mayurbhanj have come under the Red zone with high active cases. Khordha has reported 4974 active cases followed by Cuttack ( 4085) and Mayurbhanj ( 2707).
While four districts have active cases ranging from 1001 to 2500 and are declared as Orange zones, the other 23 districts with less than 1000 active cases are declared as green zones.
Similarly, six districts have a test positivity rate between 5 to 7 per cent while only one district Cuttack has a high TPR of 15.1 per cent. Among the rest 23 districts having TPR less than 5 per cent, Kalahandi district has the distinction of the lowest TPR of 0.4 per cent in the state.
