Bhubaneswar : The covid tally in Odisha today surged to 10,46,559 with the detection of 242 new positive cases in the
past 24 hours while the covid fatalities rose to 8389 with a report of three more deaths during health audit.
Health and Family Welfare department sources said of the 242 new cases,141 were reported from the quarantine centres and 101 local contact cases from 19 districts in the state.
Khordha district recorded the highest number of 120 cases followed by Mayurbhanj( 24) and Cuttack (18). These three districts together accounted for 62.8 per cent of the total new cases in the state.
While no new covid cases were found in eleven districts, as many as 16 districts have recorded single-digit covid cases.
Three more deaths, two from Khordha district and one from Ganjam, were registered during the health audit process pushing the total covid toll in the state to 8389.
On Thursday,361 covid patients were cured of the virus taking the total recoveries to 10,35,613.
The covid active cases declined to 2504 of which Khordha district alone reported 1207 cases followed by 230 in the Cuttack district. These two coastal districts contributed 57.3 per cent of the total active cases in the state.
The daily test positivity rate today marginally increased to 0.42 per cent. Khordha district is the only district that reported a 1.3 per cent test positivity rate while the other 29 districts have a test positivity rate of less than one per cent.
