Odisha logs 2085 covid cases, 56 deaths in single day

Bhubaneswar : Covid tally in Odisha today surged to 9,58,059 with the detection of 2085 fresh cases in the past 24 hours while 56 more succumbed to the virus taking the total fatalities in the state to 5172.

The daily covid load which dipped below 2 K on July 19 last crossed the 2000 mark in the past 24 hours as 1198 new cases were reported to form the quarantine centres and 887 local contact cases from all the 30 districts.

Khordha district registered the highest number of 528 cases followed by Cuttack( 210), Bhadrak(173), Balasore (113), Jagatsinghpur( 108) and Puri (106).

These six coastal Odisha districts together accounted for 59.37 per cent of total infections in the state.

Official sources said out of 56 fatalities reported in the state in the past 24 hours, a maximum of 19 deaths were reported from Khordha district followed by 8 in Sundargarh, six each from Mayurbhanj and Bargarh district. Three each died in Kendrapara, Keonjhar and Puri districts.

At least 2248 people were cured of the virus on Monday pushing the total recoveries in the state to 9,32,666.

The active cases in the state marginally reduced to 20,168 with Khordha district registering the highest number of 4557 cases followed by Cuttack ( 2767), Balasore (1588) and Jajpur ( 1430).

The Test positivity Rate in the state today stood at 2.9 per cent in comparison to the 2.33 per cent reported on Monday.

Among the 30 districts, only the Cuttack district has a TPR higher than 5 per cent while the other 29 districts have a TPR of less than 5 per cent.

The Bolangir district in Western Odisha reported zero TPR while Jharsuguda also in Western Odisha registered 0.3 per cent TPR.
