Bhubaneswar : Notwithstanding lockdown and shut down for over 70 days, the daily covid load in Odisha continued to remain over 2000 cases while the daily covid toll surged to over 60 for the past few days.
Since May 5 last the state has been under lockdown, weekend shut down and night curfew to contain the second phase of coronavirus.
Health and Family Welfare department sources said in the past 24 hours 2070 new cases were reported from 30 districts while 64 covid patients succumbed to the virus from 14 districts.
With these, the covid tally in the state went up to 9,49,929 with 9,23,209 recoveries while the fatalities rose to 4925. The active cases, however, has come down to 21,742.
The state government has extended the partial lockdown in the entire state from today till 6 AM of August 1 along with night curfew and clamped weekend shut down in ten districts registering high covid cases.
The government had divided the districts into category A and B on the basis of test positivity rate and given more relaxations in 20 districts under category A lifting the weekend shut down, allowing the shops to open from 6 AM to 8 PM and night curfew from 8 PM to 5 AM.
On the other hand, in category B districts, the shops were allowed to open on weekdays from 6 Am to 5 PM, weekend shutdown and night curfew from 5 PM to 6 AM.
The category B districts in the state from the coastal and northern parts of the state have been reporting nearly 70 to 80 per cent of daily covid load cases.
Official sources said the test positivity rate in the state today recorded 2.9 per cent as out of 70,244 tests 2070 tested covid positive. They included 1195 from the quarantine centres and 875 local contact cases.
Five districts such as Khordha, Cuttack, Balasore, Jajpur and Puri, all in coastal Odisha accounted for 1187 cases, almost 57.34 per cent of the total covid cases reported in the past 24 hours.
Khordha district has registered the highest number of 446 cases followed by Cuttack( 319) and Balasore ( 176). As many as 25 districts have reported less than 100 new infections in the last 24 hours.
Health and Family Welfare department sources said out of 64 fatalities reported in the state in the past 24 hours, Khordha district alone accounted for 22 deaths followed by Bargarh (10), Balasore(8), Sundargarh(7) and Ganjam ( 6).
Sources said only two districts-Nayagarh and Cuttack have reported TPR over 5 per cent while the rest 28 districts have recorded TPR less than 5 per cent of which 15 districts have TPR less than 2 per cent.
Six districts such as Khordha, Cuttack, Jajpur, Balasore, Puri and Mayurbhanj have together accounted for 13128 active cases, almost 60 per cent of the total active cases in the state.
Khordha district has the highest number of 4785 active cases followed by Cuttack ( 3092), Balasore ( 1768), Jajpur ( 1430), Puri ( 1043) and Mayurbhanj( 1010). The other 24 districts have less than 1000 active cases.
