Odisha Covid tally surpasses 9 lakh mark with 3,408 new cases, fatalities rise to 3,887

Bhubaneswar : The Covid tally in Odisha on Sunday crossed the 9 lakh mark after 3,408 people tested positive for COVID in the last 24 hours.

Health and Family Welfare department sources said the states’ tally soared to 9,00,470 on Sunday as 1,943 positive cases from the quarantine centres and 1,465 local contacts were reported from the 30 districts in the past 24 hours.

Khordha district the highest number with 582 infections followed by Cuttack (553), Jajpur (258), Balasore(251) and Puri ( 215 ). All the rest 25 districts in the state registered less than 200 Covid positive .

Sources said out of the total Covid tally, Khordha district alone has accounted for 1,34,224 cases, followed by Cuttack(75,352) and Sundargarh (58.953). These three districts together have accounted for nearly 30 percent of the total Covid tally in the state.

During the last 24 hours 39 Covid patients under treatment succumbed to the virus taking the total number of fatalities in the state to 3,887.

The active cases on Sunday declined slightly to 32,706 from 33,019 reported on Saturday. Only three districts- Khordha, Cuttack and Kendrapara have more than 2,501 active cases, with Khordha registering the highest number of 5,374 cases.

As far as the test positivity rate is concerned only two districts Puri and Khordha have more than 10 percent while five districts have between 5 to 7.5 percent and the rest 20 districts have less than 5 percent.

Sources said the total recoveries in the state surged to 8,63,824 with 3,682 patients being cured on Saturday. In fact since May 23 last the daily recovery rate has outnumbered the daily caseload in the state
