Music Director Murder: Accused Held After 13 Years

Bhubaneswar: The TwinCity Commissionerate Police have arrested a person accused in the murder of a music director namely Sumanta Kumar Mohanty at Macheswar in Odisha capital in 2008.

The arrested has been identified as Bikramaditya Jena alias Litua. Jena had absconded after committing the crime. He was residing in Pune and working as a gym trainer, informed Twin City Police Commissioner Saumendra Priyadarshi today.

Police had earlier apprehended four other accused- Sunil Kumar Jena (prime accused), Manas Ranjan Bedanta, Subhakanta Jena, and Sushil Kumar Samantaray- in the case, said Priyadarshi.

Deceased Sumanta Kumar Mohanty and main accused Sunil Kumar Jena were studying in the same college. Sunil was rusticated from the educational institution on the basis of a complaint by Sumanta. Sunil later hatched a plan to eliminate Sumanta and  settle scores, the police official said.

In October 2008, Sumanta was found dead in his car on Chakeisiani-Palasuni Road under Mancheswar police limits in the city. During the investigation of the case, it was ascertained that Sumanta was allured to arrange a musical programme. He went to meet the event organisers near Ekamra Talkies on October 9, 2008 in his car but didn’t return home.

 He was found dead in the vehicle on the next day. Further probe by police revealed that the registered owner of the mobile phone number from which the calls were made to Sumanta was Kasinath Champati of Rasulgarh. Kasinath had given the SIM card to Sunil. During interrogation, Sunil confessed to the crime and revealed the names of others involved in the murder.

Except Bikramaditya, all accused were arrested on October 11, 2008, police said. Acting on reliable information, the police apprehended Bikramaditya yesterday during his visit to Odisha.
