Mamata begins five-day North Bengal tour

Dumanimail,27/3 : West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday began a five-day official trip to north Bengal districts, including Darjeeling, where she is scheduled to chair several administrative meetings. After flying to Bagdogra airport in Darjeeling district, Banerjee is scheduled to address an administrative review meeting at Gosaipur, and then make a brief stopover in Siliguri onway to the Darjeeling hills. Banerjee is slated to distribute government certificates to some beneficiaries at Siliguri, the largest town in north Bengal.

Banerjee will review the ongoing government projects and take stock of preparations for the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) polls in Darjeeling, sources said. During her previous visit to the Hills, the Chief Minister had urged all stakeholders to work on a “permanent political solution”. Unlike in Siliguri where the Trinamool received a majority in the civic polls, the newly formed Hamro Party won the Darjeeling municipal elections. The party’s increasing following has altered the political equation in the Hills. The Hamro Party has announced it would maintain an “equal distance” from both the BJP and the Trinamool Congress.
