New Delhi : As many as 34,457 people tested positive for the novel coronavirus in the country during the past 24 hours, while 375 succumbed in the same period, data from the Union Health Ministry showed on Saturday.
With this, the death toll has mounted to 4,33,964.
According to the Ministry, the active cases declined by 2,265, to stand at 3,61,340. It is now 1.12 per cent of the total caseload.
On the recovery front, 36,347 patients were cured and discharged in the past one day, taking the total recovery count to 3,15,97,982, which is 97.54 per cent of the case tally. The fatality rate remained steady at 1.34 per cent.
The daily positivity rate was recorded at 2 per cent which has been less than 3 per cent for 26 consecutive days.
The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said that a total of 50,45,76,158 samples have been tested so far for coronavirus. Of this, 17,21,205 were tested on Friday.
Till now, 57,61,17,350 people have been administered COVID-19 vaccines, with 36,36,043 being inoculated against the virus in the past 24 hours.
Meanwhile, the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) on Friday gave approval to the world’s first DNA platform based Covid-19 vaccine by Zydus Cadila — ZyCoV-D. This 3-dose regimen vaccine can be administered to adults. It is also the first vaccine that can be administered to children aged 12 and above.
