Sundergarh: A jewelry shop owner was shot dead while another critically injured after three motorcycle-borne miscreants opened fire at them in-front of the shop near Badagaon bus terminal in Sundergarh district on Monday.
The deceased has been identified as Rohit Verma (22) while the injured Saroj Das (65) is battling for life at hospital. The broad daylight crime of this nature has sent shockwaves in the region.
The bike-borne criminals snatched away the bag containing the jewellery from Verma and then opened fire. Later they fled from the spot. While fleeing, the pistol used for the crime fell on the road. Police have recovered the arm and sent it for scientific examination.
It may be recalled here that the criminals had shot dead salesman of a local jewellery store in Rourkela steel town on 20 December and had looted about Rs 20 lakh worth ornaments.
