Bhubaneswar : The daily covid load in Odisha which remained below the 1000 mark for the last three days, shut up to 1041 in the past 24 hours taking the total covid tally in the state to 9,98,187.
The covid fatalities also surged to 7,154 with 68 more covid patients succumbing to the virus in the past 24 hours while the recoveries jumped to 9,81,316 with 845 more people being cured of the virus on Wednesday.
The active cases in the state further declined to 9664 and the test positivity rate of the state continued to record below 2 per cent for the last fortnight.
Health and Family Welfare department sources said out of 66,281 tests conducted in the state during the past 24 hours,1041 people, about 1.57 per cent , tested covid positive. They included 128 in the age group of 0 to 18 years.
Khordha district reported the highest number of 398 cases followed by 176 in Cuttack. The other 28 districts have less than one hundred new cases each.
The covid cases in Khordha and Cuttack districts together accounted for 55 per cent of the total new cases reported in the state in the past 24 hours.
Out of 68 new deaths reported in the past 24 hours, Cuttack district recorded a maximum of 18 deaths followed by Jagatsinghpur(10), Khordha (7), Dhenkanal (6) and five each in Bhadrak and Mayurbnanj districts.
All the 30 districts in the state recorded test positivity rates below 5 per cent with Jagatsinghpur and Khordha districts registering 3.4 and 3.3 per cent respectively.
As many as 22 of the total 30 districts, however, reported a test positivity rate below 1 per cent.
Sources said Khordha district with 3701 active cases has the highest number of active cases in the state followed by 1342 in Cuttack district. These two districts together accounted for 52.1 per cent of the total active cases in the state.
