Daily covid load in Odisha dips to 271 in past 24 hours, tally rises to 10,44, 699

Bhubaneswar : After rising consecutively for three days the daily covid load in Odisha dropped to 271 in the past 24
hours taking the tally in the state to 10,44,699.

The covid positive cases in the state have been showing ups and downs during the last several days. The daily covid load in November has witnessed below the 300 mark on five occasions since November 4 last.

It, however, shot up to 387 cases on November 9 last but then dipped to below the 300 mark and remained at 271 in the past 24 hours.

Health and Family Welfare department sources said out of 271 new cases recorded,158 were found from the quarantine centres and 113 as local contact cases.

Khordha district has the highest number of 112 cases followed by Cuttack ( 23), Sambalpur ( 20), Balasore(14) and Jajpur (10). These five districts together accounted for 66.05 per cent of the total covid19 cases registered in the past 24 hours.

The daily test positivity rate(TPR) has also dropped to 0.44 per cent. Only two districts such as Deogarh and Khordha have reported a test positivity rate of 2.2 per cent and 1.1percent while the other 28 districts have recorded a test positivity rate of less than 1 per cent.

Sources said the active cases in the state further reduced to 2932 of which a majority of 1402 cases were reported from Khordha district followed by Cuttack (263), Jajpur (112) and Sambalpur(103). The other 26 districts in the state, however, reported less than 100 cases.

The recovery in the state surged to 10,33,344 as 317 covid patients were cured of the virus on Tuesday. Two more covid deaths, one each in Khordha and Bhadrak district were recorded during the health audit taking the total fatalities in the state to 8370.

Meanwhile, the Odisha government has decided to reopen the schools for Class VI and VII students for the academic year 2021-21 from November 15 next.

The decision to resume the classes for Viand VII students was taken in view of the decline in the covid positive cases in the state.

The health experts have also favoured the opening of classes for VI and VII students. The teaching hours for these students will be 9.30 AM to 1.00 AM and the students are allowed to attend classes either Online or offline mode.

The government has already opened the schools for classroom teaching from VIII to XII students. The UG and PG classes have already opened in the state.
