Bhubaneswar : The daily covid load in Odisha witnessed a sharp decline as 761 new cases were reported in the past 24 hours taking the tally to 10,01,698.
Health and Family Welfare department sources said in the past 24 hours 443 positive cases were reported from the quarantine centres and 318 as local contact cases.
Khordha and Cuttack districts reported 289 and 117 cases respectively, accounting for a little over 53 per cent of the total caseload registered in the past 24 hours.
During the period 68 more covid patients undergoing treatment succumbed to the virus pushing the total fatalities in the state to 7426.
Sources said Cuttack district reported the highest number of 17 deaths followed by Jagatsinghpur,(15), Dhenkanal ( 9) and Khordha (8).
These four coastal Odisha districts together accounted for 72 per cent of the total fatalities reported in the state in the past 24 hours.
The active cases further declined to 8917 of which Khordha and Cuttack districts together reported 4629 cases, almost 52 per cent of the total active cases in the state.
In the past 24 hours, as many as 1078 people were recovered from the virus taking the total recoveries in the state to 9,85,302.
The test positivity rate in the state during the last 24 hours recorded 1.25 per cent and the state continued to maintain the TPR below 2 per cent for the last 23 days.
Khordha and Cuttack districts recorded 3 per cent and 2.3 per cent TPR respectively while the other 28 districts in the state recorded TPR less than 2 per cent., a majority of the districts, however, recorded TPR of less than one per cent.
