Covid 19: Odisha reports 609 new cases

Bhubaneswar : Odisha has reported a further dip in the daily Covid-19 cases as 609 new infections with a positivity rate of 0.93 percent were reported in the past 24 hours taking the total tally to 10,12,167.

Health and Family Welfare department sources said for the second time 609 positive cases were reported,the earlier being on August 29.

Since August 25 last the state has been reporting the daily covid load less than 1000 mark with a declining trend for the past few days.

Out of the fresh 609 cases, 354 were reported from the quarantine centres and 255 as local contact cases. As many as 122 cases , about 20.03 percent were recorded among the 1- 18 groups in the past 24 hours triggering concern on the rising covid cases among the children.

Khordha and Cuttack district with 188 and 113 positive cases together contributed almost 50 percent of the new cases.

During the last 24 hours only eight deaths were reported during the health audit in the state from four districts pushing the total fatalities in the state to 8055.Most of the fatalities were reported from the coastal districts.

The state has been reporting a single digit covid death toll since September one last as against an average of 60 Covid-19 deaths daily reported from July 8 to August 31 last.

The recovery in the state soared to 9,97,063 after 763 people were found cured from the virus on Sunday.

The active cases further reduced to 6996 which included 2677 from Khordha district and 903 from Cuttack district.These two coastal districts together accounted for 51.17 percent of the total active cases in the state.

Sources said barring Khordha and Cuttack which have recorded the test positivity rate 2.4 percent and 2.1 percent respectively, the other 28 districts in the state have recorded TPR lessthan 2 percent.

Four districts such as Kalahandi,Bolangir,Sonepur and Kandhamal have registered zero percent test positivity rate.

Meanwhile, the Bhubaneswar Municipality Corporation (BMC) has claimed to set a record by inoculating 22,01,761 people which included 12,27,542 with single doses and 9,74,219 second doses.

With the sharp decline in the daily Covid-19 load in the state, the Odisha government has allowed the technical institutions in the state to resume their classes from today. The hostels in the technical institutions were opened on Sunday for the students.
