Covid-19 claims 65 more lives in Odisha in past 24 hours, Toll rises to 6630

Bhubaneswar : Covid 19 claimed 65 more lives in Odisha in the past 24 hours taking the total fatalities in the state to 6630 while the tally surged to 9,90,075 with 1078 new cases.

Health and Family Welfare department sources said 65 covid patients under treatment succumbed to the virus in 15 districts. They included a maximum of 20 deaths from Khordha followed by Cuttack(12), Nayagarh ( 6) and Angul ( 5).

During the past 24 hours, 626 new cases were reported from the quarantine centres and 452 as local contact cases. Khordha district reported the highest number of 372 cases followed by Cuttack(147). The other 28 districts, however, recorded less than 100 cases during the period.

Sources said1319 people were recovered from the virus on Tuesday pushing the total recoveries in the state to 9,72,710 while the active cases further reduced to 10,682 with Khordha district registering the highest number of 3,688 cases followed by 1,332 in Cuttack district.

The Test Positivity Rate (TPR) of the state continued to remain below 2 per cent for the sixth day today with a marginal decline from 1.83 per cent on Monday to 1.56 per cent in the past 24 hours.

Sources said only Khordha district today recorded TPR 6.2 per cent while all the other 29 districts registered less than 5 per cent of which at least 18 districts have recorded TPR less than one per cent.

Khordha and Cuttack, the two coastal districts, have been showing high numbers of daily covid load, covid fatalities and active cases in the state.

These two districts in the past 24 hours recorded 48.14 per cent of the new cases in the state and 49.23 per cent of deaths and accounted for 46.9 per cent of the total active cases in the state.

Health department sources said by August 15, the state will have RT-PCR lab in all 30 districts. At present only 14 districts in the state have RT-PCR lab facilities.
