Covid 19 cases in Odisha jump to 680 in past 24 hours, tally surges to 10,56,660

Bhubaneswar,jan 04: The daily covid load in Odisha jumped to 680 in the past 24 hours from 424 reported in the last two days, taking the cumulative tally in the state to 10,56,660.
Health and Family Welfare department sources said 680 new cases which included 397 from quarantine centres and 283 local contact cases were reported from 25 of the total 30 districts in the state.
As many as 119 positive cases(17.5 per cent) were recorded in the age group of 0 to 18 years.
Khordha district registered the highest number of 263 infections followed by Sundargarh (69) Cuttack (59), Sambalpur (42), Balasore (34) and Jharsuguda (25).
These six districts in the state together accounted for 72.75 per cent of the new covid cases registered in the past 24 hours.
Sources said only one death was reported from the Balasore district taking the total fatalities in the state to 8464. The active cases further jumped to 2888 in the past 24 hours while the recovery rose to 10,45,255 after 146 covid patients were cured of the virus on Monday.
Out of 2883 active cases, the Khordha district alone accounted for 1153 cases followed by Cuttack ( 258), Sundargarh ( 196), Sambalpur ( 151) and Balasore ( 117). These five districts have 64.92 per cent of the total active cases in the state.
Meanwhile, the test positivity rate of the state which remained below 1 per cent over the last one month jumped to 1.31 per cent on Tuesday as out of 517345 tests conducted in the state on Monday,680 tested covid positive.
At least in four districts such as Khordha, Cuttack, Balasore and Sundargarh, the test positivity rate recorded more than one per cent with Khordha district registering 3 per cent, the highest in the state.
Meanwhile, official sources said on the first day of vaccination for 15 to 18 age groups as many as 80,129 were administered the vaccines in the state.
Official sources said Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik will review the covid situation in the state with the officials of the Health Department and other concerned departments in view of rising cases of covid cases.
So far Odisha has reported 37 Omicron variants of covid 19 cases but the majority of them have no symptoms or mild symptoms, Health officials claimed.
