Congress must win big in Karnataka: Rahul

Dumanimail,1/4 : Hinting at the internecine leadership tussle between Siddaramaiah and D K Shivakumar, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday laid emphasis on fighting the 2023 assembly elections in Karnataka as an united force and fixed a target of winning not less than 150 seats. “I want to tell you a very important thing, and I am seeing, it is happening. That important thing you all (DK Shivakumar, Siddaramaiah and Mallikarjun Kharge) should do is to fight the election together as one entity. “This is your biggest responsibility, which you are doing, but it needs to be done with more vigour. You all should work unitedly to help Congress win 150 seats,” he said in a Congress meeting here. Winning 150 seats was not a difficult task provided the party fights unitedly, picks up the right issues and guarantees merit as the criteria while fielding candidates, Gandhi said. “I do feel that it is very important that we promote people based on the service that they have done for the party. I don’t think we should be promoting people based on likes and dislikes. And I think we should be absolutely ruthless with this idea.” Gandhi said the party should aim to achieve a decisive victory. “I don’t think we should be deciding ticket based on past history. What the person has done 20 years ago. I think we should be distributing tickets on the work the person is doing for the Congress party,” he said “And if that person is behaving in a loyal way; if that person is putting full effort to the party; if that person is a good representative of the party, then the party must ensure that that person is protected and rewarded and that person gets the relevant position in the party,” the former Congress President said. Gandhi said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had lost the right to talk about corruption as the Karnataka government is the most corrupt in the country. “The Karnataka government is the most corrupt in the country. It is a 40 percent (commission) government. These allegations are not made by the Congress party but by contractors who are alleging that they have to shell out 40 percent commission before getting approval for taking up projects,” he said. Modi also has lost the right to talk about unemployment, Gandhi said. “What is the aim of BJP? Their aim is to snatch money from the poor and give it to the rich.
